Tom Thumb Peas Flowering

If you have been following this blog, you would know that my kids have their own pots of Tom Thumb peas they are growing this year. This dwarf variety is said to be the perfect choice for container gardening. And so far, that seems to be the case. They are growing really well, in fact they are starting to flower – the first peas in our garden to do so. I did plant them first, so they did have quite the leg up. Still exciting to see some beautiful, white flowers beginning to form. I really do enjoy pea flowers. They are pretty as other flowers and they produce a vegetable. You get beauty and food.

Yesterday I grabbed the camera and took the kids out into the garden to record what they thought about their peas. Here is a video of my kids sharing their excitement about their peas flowering. Please note that my son is actually more excited than he seems in the video!

What I like about doing these videos is that it helps the kids think about their plants more. They are trying to describe what is going on and I think that helps them to take the time to understand how the peas grow better.

I have been impressed with how these peas have been growing for us. Everything so far point to a good harvest for the kiddos.
